Data Security First

Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 17, 2026

At Clipive, we value your privacy. This Privacy Policy details how we handle, process, and protect your data. Unlike traditional cloud recording services, Clipive is built on a local-first architecture, which means your videos, audio captures, and editing metadata remain private on your computer by default.

1. Our Privacy Philosophy

We believe that you should not have to trust a third-party server with raw recording captures of your coding workspace, terminal commands, or private projects. Because of this, the core operations of Clipive—capturing the screen/webcam, tracking cursor movement coordinates, rendering CSS layouts, and compiling the timeline elements—are executed entirely client-side in your browser sandboxed environment.

2. Data Collection & Processing

Here is a breakdown of how different types of data are managed:

  • Screen & Webcam Recordings: The video and audio feeds captured during your recording sessions are processed entirely in the browser memory using standard Web APIs. Clipive does not stream or upload these files to any servers during recording.
  • IndexedDB Storage: When you save a clip, the resulting media buffers and timeline settings metadata are saved locally into your browser's IndexedDB. We have no access to this local storage.
  • Telemetry & Analytics: We may collect anonymized, aggregate performance data (such as app initialization success, extension load time, and generic error events) to help us troubleshoot and improve the application. This data never contains video contents, screen pixels, names, or code text.

3. Cloud Sharing & Video Exports

If you voluntarily choose to use Clipive's cloud sharing features (e.g., generate a public sharing URL for teammates), we upload the exported video and associated configuration metadata to our secure hosting bucket.

These uploaded files are:

  • Stored securely using encrypted storage systems.
  • Accessible only via the unique, random sharing URL generated for your clip.
  • Deletable by you at any time directly through the extension dashboard interface.

4. Data Retention

Since your recording assets are stored on your local browser database, they remain there indefinitely until you decide to delete them, clear your browser history/cache, or uninstall the Clipive extension.

Shared cloud recordings are retained on our servers for the duration of your account subscription status or until you manually request deletion.

5. Your Rights & Controls

Because Clipive operates on your device, you have complete control over your assets:

  • You can download files as MP4, WebM, or GIF format directly to your hard drive.
  • You can delete any local recording instantly with no traces remaining.
  • You can disable anonymized analytics tracking in the settings panel at any time.
